About the collection

Boris Fogel (1872-1961) - He was born in Dagestan. After his father’s death Boris Fogel moved with his mother in Tbilisi. In 1892 he entered the Faculty of Law at Moscow University. However, his true passion was art. 1896-97 he studied at the Académie Julian in Paris  and in - 1897-1902 in Petersburg Imperial Academy of Arts. After graduating from the academies, Fogel returned to Tbilisi, where he worked as a teacher. In 1934, he moved to the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts. Here he worked as a professor. The color of his works are bright. The theme of the sea is constantly found in the landscapes - with views of Batumi, the Bosphorus and Venice.
