Charles H.J. Leickert - (1816-1907). In 1841-48 he lived and worked in The Hague. He graduated from The Hague Academy , in 1849-80 lived in Amsterdam. In 1856, he became a member of the Royal Academy of Arts in Amsterdam. In the last years of his life, he traveled to Italy, France and Germany. Leickert mostly painted winter landscapes. Light and transparency can be felt in his works. The presented picture shows a corner of the village with a frozen river on which children are skating. There are trees, huts and a church in the background.
