Gia Bughadze – A Painter, graphic artist, monumentalist, art theorist. One of the prominent representatives of modern Georgian painting. Studied at the Faculty of Painting at Tbilisi State Academy of Arts at the studio of the distinguished artist Koki Makharadze in 1975-81. His diverse series are about great themes, universal problems. Information from music, history, mythology and gospel are sources of inspiration for the artist.
The famous series – “Assyrian Fathers” is less narrative, they are perceived as emotionally expressive images. 13 Assyrian fathers arrived to Georgia from Syria to strengthen Christianity in VI century. They founded several monasteries in different parts of the country. These two paintings are directly dedicated to the life of Saint father David of Gareja who turned the desert into a thriving town.
