Ilya Zankovsky (1843-1917). In 1862-63, he was a free student at the St. Petersburg Imperial Academy of Arts. Later he lived and worked in Tbilisi. From the end of the 1880s, he took part in exhibitions of "fine arts of the Caucasian society". At the same time, he worked as a teacher in the art school. The artist created a number of canvases about the theme of the Caucasus, including: "Yalbuzi", "Mount Ararat", "Daryal Gorge", etc. The presented canvas "View of the Caucasus" is one of the typical work of this series.
