Lado Gudiashvili - A Painter, graphic artist, illustrator, theater decorator, cinema artist, monumentalist. People’s artist of Georgia. Laureate of Shota Rustaveli State Prize.
He studied at Tbilisi School of Fine Arts, Painting and Sculpture in 1910-14. He participated in Tao-Klarjeti expedition by Ekvtime Takhaishvili in 1917, where he took copies of old Georgian frescoes. He lived and worked in Paris in 1919-26, studied at Ronson’s “Free Academy”. His works include, on the one hand, scenes from the bohemian life of old Tbilisi, on the other hand, legends and historical stories inspired by Georgia's past. He created idealized portraits of modern people.
The compositions depict characters full of magnificent feelings, which are personified in authorial imaginary world. The stylized painting “Joy” stands out Among the works created on this theme. Peculiar decorativeness, smooth and exaggerated shapes painted with an expressive line, give the image a kind of romantic tinge and lyrical mood.
