Lado Gudiashvili – A Painter, graphic artist, illustrator, theater decorator, cinema artist, monumentalist. People’s artist of Georgia (1950). Laureate of Shota Rustaveli State Prize (1966). Studied at Tbilisi School of Fine Arts, Painting and Sculpture (1910-14). He participated in Tao-Klarjeti expedition by Ekvtime Takhaishvili in 1917, where he was making copies of old Georgian murals. He lived and worked in Paris in 1919-26, studied at Ronson’s “Free Academy”. His works include, on the one hand, scenes from the bohemian life of old Tbilisi, on the other hand, legends and historical stories inspired by Georgia's past. He created idealized portraits of modern people. Women's faces take a special place in L. Gudiashvili's diverse works. Stylized portraits are presented on the artist's paintings and on graphic works. “Nanuli with a bird” is remarkable on this way. The peculiar decorativeness, exaggerated forms made with expressive lines give the model a kind of lyrical shade . The picture shows an young woman with a high neck, almond-shaped eyes, a slightly noticeable smile, with a fairy bird on her refined fingers.
