About the collection

Unknown artist - Odalisque - A female slave in the harem. The artistic faces of odalisques attracted European orientalist artists from the 19th century. Most of them may not have even visited oriental harems, they painted them by their imagination. Odalisques were depicted as young beautiful women, who were usually half-naked or in Asian clothes in Asian interiors. They had to know needlework, dancing and singing. The presented work was created in Istanbul, the author is unknown.
