About the collection

Vakhtang (Beso) Beselia – A Painter, graphic artist, scenographer. One of the prominent representatives of modern Georgian art. Studied at the Faculty of Art of stage design at Tbilisi State Academy of Arts  at the studio of the distinguished artist Parnaoz Lapiashvili (1964-70). Portrait take a special place in the artist's work, although he fruitfully works in the genre of still life and landscape. Artist  creates  works on biblical themes. The picture shows the expressive portrait of Batumian sculptor Otar Darchia. A character, concentrated and thoughtful, painted in three quarter view, completes the crossword puzzles. Soft lighting accentuates his face and hands. Light-shadow effects, subtle modeling of forms, a kind of blurring of the image give the work a refined expressiveness.
