About the collection

• The first medical institution in Batumi was a military hospital, which opened as soon as the Russian army entered. The first doctor of the hospital was Dr. Kasimir Severin. On May 3, 1902, was opened the city hospital with 120 beds. There were surgical, therapeutic, infectious, maternity, gynecological, venereal and psychiatric departments in the hospital.

Kadir Shervashidze was the first Adjarian doctor with higher education. Scientific therapy in Adjara was founded by Dr. Tamar Betaneli.
