Economic Development in the Democratic Republic of Georgia

About the collection

  • On July 11, 1919, the Constituent Assembly of the Democratic Republic of Georgia adopted a decree on the issuance of the Bonn(currency) of the Republic of Georgia. In the same year 1, 3, 5, 10, 100 and 500 manats ( currency) were published, and in 1921 5000 manats, the authors of which were artists: Joseph Charlemagne, Henrikh Hrinevsky and Dimitri Shevardnadze.

The first national postage stamps were issued on May 26, 1919, consisting of 9 denominations. The issue of stamps was stopped in 1921, after the Soviet Union of Georgia.

The October 1919 issue of the French magazine Limange was dedicated to Georgia.
