About the collection

  •            In February-March 1921, Soviet Russia annexed Georgia. On March 18, the government of the Democratic Republic of Georgia emigrated. Batumi was occupied by the Ottoman Armed Forces. In the March 18-20 General Giorgi Mazniashvili with his own few fighters,  at the cost of great heroism expelled the Ottomans from Batumi.

        Over 80 soldiers were killed in the liberation battle in 1921. Fifty of them were buried on the Central Square. In spring of 1990 in May-June, Batumi society managed to restore the graves. The remains of the warriors were sink into the communal  grave  on June 3.
