About the collection

• 38 countries from different continents took part in the First World War (1914-1918). The war resulted in the death and mutilation of millions of people, the destructi on and devastation of a grand scale.

World War I also affected Batumi. On November 27, 1914, the German cruisers Geben and Breslau dropped grenades on Batumi and its fortresses. Two buildings were destroyed in the bombing, five people were injured, one civilian was killed.
