About the collection

Khikhani Castle is located at the head of the Skhalta River valley on one of the slopes of the Khikhadziri Mountain in a strategically very convenient location.  The exact date of construction of the castle is unknown. There are several layers in the fortification construction pile.  Ancient X-XI c. New XVII-XIX c. In X1-XV1 c. Khikhani Castle was the main residence of the feudal duke Abuserisdzes of Adjara. It was later conquered by the Ottomans. Selim Khimshiashvili, a fighter against the Ottomans, was strengthened in Khikhani castle in 1815.
