• In 1873, the American Haire Stephen Maxim developed the weapon. It was the first automatic machine gun whose working principle was based on the use of fired bullet energy. It was the first automatic weapon in the history of mankind.

From 1897 to 1904, Russia purchased about 300 machine guns. Began to use these weapons in the Russian army. The machine guns established on heavy field planks with field rifles.

Maxim 7.62 mm machine guns were successfully used by the Russian army in World War I.
