Model – Batumi prison

About the collection

  • Batumi prison was located near the Boys' Gymnasium (now Shota Rustaveli State University). It held 80 prisoners.

         Participants of revolutionary rallies and demonstrations in different cities were meeting  in prison.

        Among them was Joseph Stalin, who was arrested for organizing a political demonstration on March 9, 1902.

          Active participants of the 1905-1907 revolution were also arrested in Batumi. In November 1907, there were 292 prisoners  in the prison.
