  • During the Ottoman occupation, products made in Istanbul and other cities were imported to Adjara and various monetary units were used. Archaeological exavations in the area of Gonio Fortress have discovered many Ottoman clay tobacco pipes of the XVI-XVII centuries. Their shape and ornament are varied. The main part is molded and decorated with geometric or plant ornaments. The drug smoked hookah was used in aristocratic circles.
