About the collection

• The existence of a port on the territory of modern Batumi dates back to BC IV c. From the 1950s, the port of Batumi became a central transit point for the western countries on the eastern Black Sea coast, connecting the Caucasus and the eastern regions.

          The rapid development of the port in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries is linked to the transportation of Baku oil from Batumi to worldwide.
