About the collection

The map is made at the St. Petersburg Cartographic Factory. Cartographer of the factory D. Rudneva.

The map shows the disposition of the Nobel brothers's oil products. The places where the Nobel had commercial interests are marked in red. Among them is the port of Batumi, from where more than 25% of the world oil passed through at the end of the XIX century. Swedish industrialists Ludwig, Robert and Alfred Nobel founded the "Nobel Brothers Oil Production Partnership" in Baku in 1878. They chose the Baku-Tbilisi-Batumi route to export oil to Europe. The Nobel laureates were the first to export oil from Batumi to Europe.
