At the boundary of the XIX-XX centuries there were several theaters in Batumi. "Family Theater", Ananiev Theater, Shmaevsky Theater, "Iron Theater". Theatrical performances were performed in the City Council building (House of Former Officers).
Dramatic troupes from Tbilisi and Kutaisi came to Batumi for touring performances at various times. For money received, helped the Georgian school in Batumi, talented poor students. Evenings or theatrical performances were traditionally held for charitable purposes.
