Exhibit from the museum of Religion
The handkerchief is a square cloth that is part of a priest's clothing
It is fastened at one corner and is worn by the bishop on top of his vestments, on the right side.
For meritorious and zealous servants, the honoured priests who wear it on the right side are also granted the right to wear the handkerchief by the bishop. In such a case, it is worn on the left side. The handkerchief is a necessary part of the vestment for the archimandrite and the bishop.
Simon of Thessalonica writes in the 4th chapter about the temple: the high priest fastens the so-called A-side of strength, which signifies victory over death, the immortality of our nature, the majesty of God and triumph over evil. This is why the handkerchief has the shape of a shield, which stands for human strength and wisdom.
