Gold Phiale
Represents a part of the Gonio Hoard dated to the 1st-2nd centuries AD, which was accidentally found during road construction and consists of magnificent examples of late Classical, ancient Oriental and local goldsmithing;
Kept at the Gold Treasure of Batumi Archaeological Museum;
This object with rather capacious body and completely covered with vertical flutes is similar to ones had been discovered in Bactria; Massive. The inner rim of the mouth is slightly rounded and distinguished from the body by a horizontal groove. The heel is round in shape, plain on the outer side. Both the inner and outer surfaces are traced with dot and surrounding circles that points to using of potter’s wheel during its manufacture.
