A statue of a tiger. By Thomas Cartier. France. Bronze. II half of the XIX century. Thomas Cartier (1879-1943) was a French sculptor. He was born in Marseille. He studied at the School of Fine Arts in Paris. He was a student of one of the greatest sculptors of his time, Georges Gardet (1863-1939), who was famous for his animal sculptures. Thomas Cartier also became a specialist in animal sculptures. He made many models of lions, cats and dogs. Many were cast in both white metal and bronze. He also worked with terracotta and ceramics. His sculptures were used for clocks and other decorative objects. Thomas Cartier began exhibiting his work in Parisian salons in 1904 and continued to do so throughout his life. Sculptures kept in Ajara Khariton Akhvlediani Museum.
