Sewing machine owned by Olga Guramishvili. Zinger production, second half of the 18th century. Preserved in the Ilia Chavchavadze Museum. Iron sewing machine with all mechanisms. The lid is made of wood and is light brown in colour. Olga Guramishvili, Ilia Chavchavadze's wife, became an example of womanhood of the Georgian nation, who had many duties towards the nation: she was a member of the Society for the spreading of Literacy among Georgians, a member of the Board of Trustees of the Transcaucasian Women's Institute, a member of the Historical and Ethnographic Society of Georgia, 1895-1906. As the chairwomen of the Georgian Women's Charitable Society, she also headed the Tailoring and Sewing School for Women. She also assisted the association of nobility of Tbilisi governorate helping poor students.
