On November 20, 1924, Georgian sculptor, painter, and graphic artist- Irakli Ochiauri was born. In 1951, Irakli Ochiauri graduated from the Faculty of Sculpture at Tbilisi State Art Academy. Under the supervision of Silovan Kakabadze, Yakob Nikoladze, Vasil Shukhaev, and Sergo Kobuladze. In 1952-1953, he was the first one to create embossing works, which actually laid the foundation for the revival and further development of modern Georgian embossing art. He worked in almost all fields of fine art: painting, graphics, sculpture, monumental decorative art, and metal sculpture. His works are characterized by expressive plasticity, tense dynamics, rhythmicity, decorativeness, and advanced professional skills. Irakli Ochiauri has created a bust sculpture of a scriptwriter Suliko Jhgenti, which was erected in Batumi Boulevard in 2007. This is the only sculptural work of the author that adorns Batumi. Thus, our city owns three samples of great artist and brilliant sculptor - two of them beautify our museum. One is the painting "Girl with Pomegranates", which is kept in the funds of Ajara Art Museum.
