The field of weaving in the territory of Ajara dates back to ancient times and a large place was given to it in the agricultural and living life of Ajara.

Cloth from any material was woven on the horizontal knitting machine. The only difference was in the tex weaver’s reed and the comb. Linen, wool, as well as hemp, silk, and cotton, were used as knitting materials.

The horizontal knitting machine was made of beech, spruce, or elm trees. The cover of the comb was made of wood, and the teeth were made of red skin or bamboo. Tex weaver’s reed was made of cotton thread. The prepared tex weaver’s reed-comb was placed in a special room and arranged on the net. On its front side, a special shaft was placed on which wicker was wrapped.
